RANDOM THOUGHTS: WHY YOU SHOULD READ

Lately, I've been experiencing some kind of writer's block. I try to write but I am blank. The words aren't coming out. My interest in this blog has waned. However, this blog will continue. I know the block is temporary but I feel pained at the time it's taking me to get over this.

I want to write but I struggle to string sentences together. I'll force it. I can't wait any longer. If you find the following article on reading disjointed, hold writer's block responsible and pardon me. Here we go...

In your quest for academic excellence, never neglect a good reading habit. You can't escape reading if you aspire to be at the top or desirous of a good understanding of your course of study.

At present, many great ideas in our world are hidden in books. Not even this 21st century digital age has been able to effect a change.

Hard copy books, unlike its digital counterpart, are a faithful companion to the average student.
The student scours through several pages in order to grasp concepts and understand principles.

I've had to force myself to read books, particularly the academics inclined. Reading some of the books recommended in our institutions of learning can best be described as punishment. Many a book are uninspiring, bland, and ambiguous. You read past a few pages and boredom sets in. Yet, our students are accused of not imbibing the reading culture. There is an ever loud chatter about how students don't read again. Lately, I've asked myself, "what are the young ones who spend countless hours on social media and entertainment blogs doing?". You can't prepare a poor dish and expect it to be relished. That's not gonna happen.

Our intellectuals who constantly churn out textbooks need to sit down and seek ways of making their contents engaging enough for the student to read.

Authors should conduct research, seek opinions and perspectives on reading. There should also be an implementation of feedbacks gotten.

The world is getting smarter and fast paced. Authors should learn to hit the nail on the head in their books and save learners that precious time.
I am not advocating that our textbooks become an empty string of words. However, authors should learn to use fewer words. Use illustrations instead. A picture, I heard,  is worth more than a thousand words.

When I read books, I immerse myself in the narrative. I try to see things from the author's standpoint. "What is he/she trying to pass across?", I constantly ask myself.
We need to read books, both the traditional and the digital. Books broaden the horizon. Good books stretch the imagination beyond yield points without breaking the individual.

My advice? Read, read and read books, dear students. Books will push your dreams and position you for excellence. Mediocrity flees from the diligent reader.
